Dear Concerned Taxpayer,
California taxpayers scored a major victory this week when Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger's tax-and-spend healthcare plan was defeated! California Assembly Bill 1X failed to pass the Senate Health Committee by a vote of 7 to 1 on Monday.
Gov. Schwarzenegger’s plan, modeled on former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney's health insurance program that has already incurred nearly $400 million in cost overruns, aimed to create a near-universal healthcare system in California. The business and consumer taxes used to finance the proposal would have impacted virtually every Californian. With budget officials projecting a $14 billion shortfall this fiscal year, a nearly unanimous majority of Health Committee members rightly concluded that state taxpayers cannot afford the health plan’s $14.5 billion price tag.
CCAGW mobilized thousands of our members and supporters in California, and thanks to the many who contacted their state Senators, California taxpayers have been spared this costly expansion of state government and the massive tax increases that would have gone along with it!
Sincerely,
 Thomas A. Schatz President
