Tell Congress:  Sign the "Hurricane Katrina
No Pork Pledge"!

As widely reported inside the Beltway, lobbyists from virtually every industry are lining up to tap into the massive relief funding for Hurricanes Katrina and Rita.  Help us ensure that hurricane relief spending goes where it’s needed - to the victims and rebuilding efforts.  Tell your U.S. Representative and Senators to sign CCAGW’s “Hurricane Katrina No Pork Pledge.”

Emergency spending bills, like those being used to finance hurricane recovery efforts, have become a magnet for pork and special-interest add-ons because they do not count against House and Senate budget caps and such bills are always signed by the President.  In three large emergency spending bills over the past two years, Congress added $1.5 billion in pork-barrel projects - at the expense of our troops, disaster victims, and taxpayers

CCAGW has challenged members of Congress to commit publicly to oppose funding for unrelated pork projects in the supplemental spending bills for hurricane relief by signing CCAGW’s “Hurricane Katrina No Pork Pledge."

To date, Congress has approved $62.5 billion in hurricane relief funding - without any offsetting cuts in spending - adding to the $333 billion federal deficit forecast for fiscal year 2005.  The federal government’s bill for hurricane clean-up and recovery could reach as much as $150 billion.

Tell Congress not to compound our nation’s most expensive natural disaster with non-essential, special-interest spending - creating a federal budget disaster of epic proportions.  Ask your Representative and Senators to sign CCAGW’s “Hurricane Katrina No Pork Pledge” today!
