Stop New Mexico from Adopting a Socialist-Style Healthcare System!

Gov. Bill Richardson has introduced a healthcare “reform” plan that would burden taxpayers with untold costs, drive doctors from New Mexico, and impose socialized medicine on all state residents.  

The New Mexico Legislature is right now considering the governor’s proposal.  It's urgent that you tell your state Representative and Senator to oppose Gov. Richardson's healthcare "reform" boondoggle today!

Gov. Richardson’s plan is seriously flawed.  It would create a new government bureaucracy to regulate every aspect of healthcare delivery for everyone in New Mexico.  Do you really want government bureaucrats, like those who work at the Department of Motor Vehicles, deciding which doctors you can see, which medicines you can take, and which procedures you can have?

What’s more, the governor’s scheme for socialized medicine would put price controls on doctors, driving many from the state and making it even more difficult for citizens to get the quality healthcare they need. 

To finance his plan, Gov. Richardson would raise taxes on small businesses, hurting New Mexico’s economy.  Even worse, the official cost estimate for the plan has ranged from $72 million to $333 million.  The truth is no one really knows how much this plan will cost or how high taxes will have to rise to pay for it!

To improve access to healthcare and cut costs, lawmakers should strive for less government intervention, not more.  According to the Rio Grande Foundation, New Mexico is one of only a handful of states that actually tax healthcare expenses borne by individuals.  One logical step toward making healthcare more affordable for more New Mexicans would be eliminating this tax.

Please tell your state Representative and Senator to vote AGAINST the governor's plan to impose costly socialized medicine on New Mexico!
